Tips On Starting A Drop Shipping Home Business

Drop shipping is a supply chain management system that has given the e-commerce industry a vertical growth. Once you understand what exactly is drop shipping, the different methods that exist, and how to get a reliable drop shipper it is easy to get started on your own and engage in a profitable business.

Interestingly, the community of drop shippers and their clients are ever growing and several blogs and forums will give you the much-needed information and boost on the subject.

So what exactly is this method of operation? In simple words, dropshipping is a supply chain management system where the manufacturer ships the products directly to the retailer’s customer and the retailer makes the profit!

In this case, the reseller I.e you, do not have to store products that you need to sell, nor do you have to block your money by investing in the product stock. Thus you save storage space and money. Further, you need not engage the services of any staff in handling and packaging the products as the product gets shipped directly from the wholesaler to your customer.

So effectively what you do is create your own website, upload some products for sale, and do the marketing. When you get an order from your customer, pass on the order to the drop shipper who will ship the goods on your behalf. The difference between your sale price and the price at which you order from the drop shipping manufacturer is your profit.

Though operationally it looks like a simple business model, the following questions need serious understanding.

1. How do you find a reliable drop shipper?
2. How do you market the products?
3. Which niche products should you market?
4. How to create a website?
5. How to successfully upload and price a product?
6. What is the guarantee of product delivery to your customers?
7. Shipping and Refund policies?

There are several other factors that may come up in your mind which could be essential to your business success.

Well, it is not all that difficult to get answers to the above queries if you spend some time researching and understanding the subject matter. You will notice that it is easy to understand why drop shipping has become more popular, as it reduces the number of times an item has to be handled before it gets to the end customer.

Tips And Strategies For Staying Focused While Working From Home

A good example of a distraction. So right now, I am working at my kitchen table which is my home office at the moment. My Son comes down and decides that he will make himself a bite to eat while I am right in the middle of trying to write this article. How would you handle the situation? Generally, we are on the same schedule and do have lunch together every day around the same time but today happened to be different because of his schedule. I tried to make him see that by entering the kitchen and making his lunch in the same space where I was working was a distraction. This just annoyed him and he left saying under his breath that I should not be working in the kitchen. He is right of course and this takes me to the next topic of the dedicated work area.

Dedicated work area. This is definitely a luxury in most homes and especially small apartments but you should make the effort to find and make a dedicated work space. If there is someone in the house with you all day as is the case with my Son they need to be made to understand that while you are in this space it should be respected as a work area. I will be practicing what I am preaching as soon as possible so my Son can have his freedom back in the kitchen. Providing yourself a delineation between home and work space will help make it clear that only work activities should happen in the dedicated work area. It is important to have boundaries and expectations when it comes to your work area. Now that you have your dedicated work area it is a good idea to establish your work hours.

Establishing your work hours. It is your work day, so instead of working haphazardly through the day set up your work hours. I generally start my day somewhere in the area of 10:00 am as I am involved with other matters in the home until then. I generally break for lunch around noon or 1:00 pm and take an hour for lunch. After lunch I generally work until 4:00 – 5:00 pm. So, I would say, I work from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with an hour for lunch. There will be days that I will start earlier or finish later but at least deciding on a quitting time is helpful. Once you have your time set the day becomes more structured around what you are trying to accomplish.

Dressing for success. Get out of your PJ’s and sweat pants! Wearing these types of clothes make you feel like you are not really working and this will make you prone to distractions. Make it a point to get dressed every day as what you wear in your office has a direct impact on your work performance and productivity.

Work at another location. Besides the distractions of working from a home-based office it can sometimes get a little lonely. I know that when I started working from home I left the hustle and bustle of running an office of 60 people to being home alone. It was a little disconcerting at first. My local coffee shop became a second office and without the distractions of home and family, I found myself more motivated. It was also easier to focus on the task at hand and I definitely got more accomplished. It was also nice being around other people and not feeling so isolated.

Act as if you are going to work. This is a fun tip given to me by a friend. He told me that in order to fight off the distractions of working from home he fooled himself into thinking that he actually went to work somewhere else. He established a routine just like the one he had when he worked in an office. He would get up every day at the same time and perform his personal grooming and get dressed for work. He would actually leave his apartment, get in his car and drive somewhere. He would arrive back at his apartment and begin his work day as if he had gone to work. He did this until he became disciplined enough to work in his home office.

5 Steps To Getting A Home Business Online

Getting a home business online is not as difficult as you may think. If you follow the right steps, you can get your home business on to the world-wide web and start selling your products and services to customers from all over the world.

1. What Products Or Services Are You Going To Sell?

If you’ve already operating a home business, you’ll most likely have some products or services that you’re selling. If not, you can sell products and services that have already been produced by other businesses.

This is called affiliate marketing. It’s a very popular online business model for home based businesses. As an affiliate for a product, you get paid a commission when you sell it. There are countless numbers of both physical and digital affiliate products available to sell online.

2. Create A Website

If you want to get your home business online you know that means building a website. This is often the part that stops many potential entrepreneurs in their tracks. But setting up a website is not as complex as you may believe. There are a number of step-by-step website programs that can get you online quickly. You can even use an outside agency for the whole set up if you want to.

3. Get People To Your Website

You may have the finest products in the world and the greatest looking website, but if nobody knows it is out there, then you’re not going to have any customers.

You can use free website traffic methods or you can pay for your website traffic. Free website tactics include optimizing your website for search engine traffic, writing a blog, video marketing and social media marketing.

Paid website traffic in the form of pay-per-click advertising on search engines and social media and banner ads on popular website.

4. Provide Lots Of Value

It’s very unlikely that somebody will buy from you the first time that they visit your website. By providing lots of useful information on your website, you can demonstrate that you know what you’re talking about. Also, if you can get them to give you their email address, you can stay in contact with them, rather than hoping that they will return to your website again in the future.

5. Develop An Effective Sales Funnel

Typically, a potential customer needs to see your messages 7 to 8 times before they trust you enough to buy something. Email is the perfect way to deliver these messages. Once they have given you their email address, send them a series of emails to guide and inform potential customers as they become familiar with your products or services so that they eventually buy from you.

Final Finishing Touches For The Home-Based Office

The Office Floor Plan

Do not consider purchasing office furniture until you have measured your office space and considered what furnishings you would like to have in the office. When you have measured the office space and decided on your furnishings it is then the time to do an actual floor plan. Be sure you have measured the office furniture that you want to place in the space as well. Basic office furniture would include a desk, desk chair, guest chair (one or two depending on the space) and a bookcase. If you have a large office space you may want to include a desk size credenza for additional work space.

There are many different ways to lay out the furniture in the home-based office and it will mostly depend on the size of the space and where the window and door are located. For example, you could have the desk facing a wall, facing the window, diagonally placed, or centrally located in the office space. Another question to ask is will this just be a home-based office or will it do some double duty as perhaps the guest room or dining room? If the office will serve as a dual space then you will need to consider storage space such as a closet so the office can disappear when you need it to. So, we have painted the office, put up our window treatments and wall decorations and now is the time to place the furnishings.

Lighting For The Home-Based Office

At this point when the use of the office space has been determined and the office furnishings have been placed in the office, it would be a good time to consider an effective use of lighting. So when choosing the lighting remember that the home-based office is not only functional working space but it is also a part of your home decor. There should be comfortable, properly lit area for reading, relaxing, and viewing a computer screen or TV. There should also be a place to display collections or artwork. Some rules of thumb to follow when installing lighting into the office would be to consider the natural light and then layer the lighting using some ambient, task lighting, and accent lighting. The bottom line is that the office has good quality lighting. A dimly lit office will have a negative effect on your productivity so be sure you have adequate lighting in your home-based office.

What Industry Are You Working In?

I only ask this question because just like family pictures and inspirational quotes, whatever industry you are working in should be reflected in your home office space. In a previous article I talked about how adding a touch of your industry to your space will let people know what it is that you are doing while working at your desk. For example, if you are a company representative selling health and wellness products have a couple of products and perhaps information about the products displayed either on your desk or on your bookcase. Just be sure they are placed in an area where they will be noticed and perhaps invoke curiosity in your visitor.

Basic Office Equipment

Finally add your basic office equipment such as computer/mouse, printer/copy/fax machine, telephone, shredders, bulletin boards, white boards, etc. and you have successfully completed the set up for the perfect home-based office. Don’t forget to add some comfy space for taking a break or reading. Add some easy to care for plant life or even a silk plant or two and you have created a space that you will be happy and productive in for the hours you will be spending there.

Health Risks When Working From Home

Working from home should be treated the same as working from the office when it comes to health and safety.

If you are working for a boss from home you will need to comply with all the health and safety rules you would have at work. Your employer is responsible for your health and safety while you are working, wherever that may be.

You need to ensure all equipment is safe to use and is used in a safe manner. Perhaps working on your laptop from bed sounds like a great idea but if you did it for any length of time you would find you had a sore neck or back and perhaps your wrist would become painful, as well.

Proper posture is something that is essential for your long-term comfort.

You need to be aware of things like power cords for trips and falls as well as their maintenance to avoid electric shock or fires.

Even if you work for yourself you should take all the precautions of an employee. After all, you are your greatest asset.

You need to eat healthy meals at regular times and to exercise. Ideally you should get up and move around every hour or so and don’t forget to get at least thirty minutes of exercise every day. Taking a walk around the park or even just around the neighborhood can give you your daily exercise benefits as well as giving your mind a chance to refresh and renew.

Don’t forget to take a couple of days off every week. Proper breaks helps prevent burn out. Make the weekend a time to visit friends and family. You will feel rested and ready to work more productively when you start back on Monday.

Ideally, you will have a place to keep all your work or business things. It is hard to enjoy working from home if you can never find anything. You should probably not let anyone play games on your work computer unless you have everything backed up. Little accidents like spilling coffee on the computer are more likely to happen at home. It is good business practice to save and backup your work often. You also need to make sure any business is kept private. You don’t want your children posting your latest business reports on to Facebook.

Starting Your Own Home Business Is Incredible Simple and Easy

Have you ever wanted to start your own home business?

Do you like the idea of being able to earn money from home without having to make a long commute into work?

Does the notion of creating your own business from scratch and getting the sense of pride and accomplishment that comes from that appeal to you?

Then what’s stopping you!?

Chances are that you’ve thought about setting up your own business before but maybe you ultimately decided that it wasn’t for you.

Maybe you decided that you didn’t have the time or the technical expertise that would be required to start your own company. Maybe you lacked an ‘idea’ to kick things off with. Or maybe you just felt too afraid to take the necessary risks and chances – don’t feel bad, that’s very normal!

Well, I’m here to tell you that you needn’t worry. You don’t need any more skill or time than you already have and I absolutely guarantee that creating your own home business is much simpler than you probably expect. Read on and discover why starting your own home business is easier than it sounds – as long as you’re willing to accept technology as the crucial tool you’ll be using to find and manage your clients.

Starting a Business Online Is Just Like Starting Any Other Business
A lot of people think that they need to be ‘tech entrepreneurs’ in order to earn money online and start making a living from the web. The assumption is that you need to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or Steve Jobs, with some kind of world-changing piece of technology or software that you invented.

But that’s not true in 99% of cases. In fact, if you set out to change the world, then you have a MUCH higher chance of failing.

You know who succeeds? The direct sales businesses. The online service providers. The ‘boring’ businesses.

If your main interest is to gain financial independence, freedom and satisfaction from running your own business, then you don’t need to create something new and crazy. Instead, you just need to find a business idea that is already tried and tested and then simply replicate it.

This is how the best businesses operate in the brick-and-mortar world too. Most companies are not Microsoft or Virgin. Most companies are hair salons, restaurants, consultants and brick layers. You might not hear about them in the news so often, but they make more than enough money for their owners to enjoy a comfortable living and they give them the freedom and pride that comes from being their own bosses.

To create an online business, all you need to do is to identify a service or product that you can sell and then start selling it – all while using the web to identify your clients. So, that might mean that you start selling writing services, business consultation, marketing or web design. Maybe you sell an offline service but use the web to find the clients – whether you want to work as a lawyer, an estate agent or a hair dresser. Or maybe you just sell products online. All you need to do is to buy products wholesale and then sell them on at a profit. Start small and then reinvest your profits with bigger orders to grow your inventory.

Technology Makes it SO Easy – And There’s No Need to Take a Big Risk
The best part is that by using technology, you can save yourself a huge amount of time and remove the need for massive up-front investments.

Finding clients is a simple matter of finding places where the right demographic hangs out online. That could mean posting in a local Facebook group, it could mean posting on Reddit, or it could mean finding a forum. Or perhaps you want to go the SEO route? That might mean paying a company or learning the basics yourself. Or perhaps you are willing to invest a little money into paid Facebook or Google ads? Either way, you can control the budget precisely to make sure you aren’t investing a large amount of money and risking not making that cash investment back.

And here’s the great thing: you can actually avoid needing to take any kind of major risk in order to jump start your business. You can start with a small investment of time and of money and just dedicate a few evenings to getting your business up and running to see if it sticks. The web allows you to be anywhere in the world without having to leave your desk chair and it allows you to scale and grow by using powerful tools to broadcast your message.
